Michelle A. Tarnelli

Attorney at Law

Michelle grew up in Utica, New York, and moved to Vermont in 2009. She joined the firm in 2012 and concentrates in all areas of adoption law, assisted reproductive technology (ART) law, non-resident civil union dissolution, and divorce and family law, including family court and adoption appeals.

Her adoption practice includes interstate adoptions, relative adoptions, stepparent or second parent adoptions, and contested termination of parental rights in Vermont probate courts. Her assisted reproduction practice includes the legal aspects of gestational surrogacy, gamete and embryo donation, birth certificate amendments, and parentage orders.

Michelle excelled in law school as a Notes Editor for the Vermont Law Review and a member of the Moot Court Advisory Board (MCAB), and received numerous academic excellence awards in areas including appellate advocacy, mediation, legal professions, real estate, and bankruptcy law. She was also selected for the Schweitzer Fellowship Program, a program comprised of a select few law students and medical students committed to serving and empowering vulnerable communities and to promoting positive change.

Prior to her legal career, Michelle worked in advertising, marketing, and public relations, her projects ranging from local non-profit to national brands organizations.
