A native New Englander and founding member of the firm, Jim returned to Vermont after law school. Practicing law since 1968, Jim concentrates in the areas of divorce, family law, high conflict mediation, and federal and state criminal defense.
Jim is a Fellow of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers, an invitation-only fellowship of experienced trial lawyers recognized for their mastered art of advocacy and exceptional professionalism.
For more than 20 years, Jim’s peers have selected him for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America and in New England Super Lawyers in the areas of family law and criminal law. His peers have also recognized Jim as Vermont’s Family Law Attorney of the Year and Criminal Defense (White Collar) Attorney of the Year.
He has numerous reported criminal cases involving the constitutionality of Vermont’s rape shield law, possession of ecstasy, and prosecutorial misconduct in a child sex abuse case. Jim also has numerous reported family cases involving pension division, alimony, and child relocation issues.
Jim brings wisdom and experience and a unique perspective on family law and criminal law issues after many years of practice. He lives in Charlotte and is a life-long skier and occasional biker.
